Adam Joseph Phipps charged with possession of child pornography
San Diego - United States Attorney Karen P. Hewitt announced that Adam Joseph Phipps pled guilty today in federal court in San Diego to an indictment charging him with possession of child pornography, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 2252(a)(4)(B). Phipps entered his guilty plea before Magistrate Judge Anthony J. Battaglia, subject to final acceptance of the plea by United States District Court Judge Larry A. Burns, at the time of sentencing. According to the plea agreement, Phipps will not appeal the sentencing unless it exceeds 97 months. Phipps has been detained without bail since his arrest in January 2007.
In pleading guilty, Phipps admitted that on or about January 10, 2007, he possessed a computer which contained more than 600 images of minors engaging in sexually explicit conduct. Court documents indicate that an examination of the computer revealed thousands of such images, and that Phipps was a “moderator” of a child modeling website. The case was initially referred to the San Diego Sheriff’s Department by a local business after Phipps took some of the images from his computer to his workplace and displayed them to coworkers.
Sentencing for Phipps is scheduled for August 20, 2007 at 9:30 a.m., before United States District Court Judge Larry A. Burns. DEFENDANT Case Number: 07cr0162 Adam Joseph Phipps San Diego, California
